Become your own favorite chef as School of Food equips you with the basics for every great meal no matter where that meal is prepared. Now you can take those skills home - for life.
Join us for one or three transformative Tuesdays (October, 9, 16 and 23) and gear up for the holidays (or life) with School of Food and spend some happy hours in the kitchen with a highly-trained chef elevating, or complimenting, your cooking skills. Fast-paced and interactive, the classes are perfect for beginners and self-taught cooks who want to take their cookery (n. the practice or skill of preparing and cooking food) to the next level.
In this three-part adventure, you’ll not only be able to whip up some essentials like soups, stocks and sauces, you’ll gain some valuable knife (and life) lessons. We’ll cube and strip and discover exactly what small or large dice or julienne really means in a recipe. You’ll be able to tackle that chicken or beef like a pro with your newfound butchery skills with just the right grip.
Of course, you’ll enjoy the fruits of your labor (pun intended) and dine with your classmates.

Week 1: ( Tuesday, October 9, 6:30PM -9:30PM) KNIFE SKILLS (may be purchased separately in this listing)
You’ll get the basics, from maintenance and form to the fundamental cuts you need to know. By the end of class, you’ll have chopped, minced and diced your way to next level kitchen skills that will last you for life.
Week 2:(Tuesday, October 16, 6:30PM -9:30PM) BUTCHERY (may be purchased separately - see separate listing)
From the tools and techniques behind different cuts of meat, to proper cleaning and deboning procedures, we’ll take you through the basics of this age-old, top chef technical skill. You’ll leave class with some serious bragging rights plus an appreciation for all parts of the animal.
Week 3:(Tuesday,October 23, 6:30PM -9:30PM) STOCKS, SOUPS AND SAUCES (may be purchased separately - see separate listing)
Stocks and sauces are what distinguish the home cooked from the restaurant meal – and they can make or break your dish. In fact, stocks and sauces form the base flavor component for many dishes, making it an essential kitchen skill, not to mention the hallmark of a great chef. Learn the fundamentals behind creating each type of classic stock, while preparing some classic soups – then master the “mother” sauces, from Tomato to Bechamel. By the end of class, you’ll have the skills to elevate the flavor profile of any dish you make!

What's included in my ticket price?
Your ticket grants you entry and full participation for all three classes in the series and use of the assigned ingredients (and consumption of the scrumptious results), kitchen tools and equipment with supervision and instruction by a highly trained chef. All participation is voluntary, at your comfort level.
Alcoholic beverages are available for sale at School of Food, but are not included in your ticket price.
Is this event restricted to Mixolo members?
No, tickets for this experience are available here and on the School of Food website. School of Food offers a number of exciting cooking classes and professional workshops on their website for the general public.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
The minimum age for this event is 18. Please be prepared to present ID when purchasing alcoholic beverages.
What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?
The Baltimore Food Hub is located in Broadway East, blocks from the Johns Hopkins campus and Eager Park. The community is home to Humanim at the American Brewery, the Mary Harvin Senior Center, and the Hoen Lithograph Building. The site is minutes from downtown, I-95, I-895, and I-83. It is also well-served by public transportation including Metro rail and multiple bus lines.
There are other addresses attributed to the Food Hub in GPS apps, however, the address we provided is most direct as the gate entrance to the Food Hub is on N. Wolfe Street.
There is a free parking lot adjacent to the School of Food.

How will cancellations be handled?
Mixolo will be required to make advance payments for this type of event. Cancellations may be made for a full refund up to 7 days before the event.

Your registration and attendance will imply your willingness to participate and your release of all photos for use in marketing and promotions for Mixolo, Inc.
