About The Event

Like it intellectual? Join us at the library, our most endearing free public space,  for an "interactive discussion" that may be just the thing beleaguered Baltimore City citizens and its vocal critics may need.

New York Times Columnist, renowned commentator, and best-selling author, David Brooks, and Salon editor-at-large, University of Baltimore professor, and founder of the BMORE Writer's project, D. Watkins, will join forces at Baltimore's recently renewed Central Library to talk community and Baltimore.

Weave: The Social Fabric Project, the inspiration behind this special community event, was launched in 2018 by David Brooks in partnership with the Aspen Institute to define and address the 21st-century challenges they suggest were created from our society's "hyper-individualistic" pursuit of success at all cost.  Weave's mission is to empower communities to unite to overcome from what they view as the consequences of that mindset, increased polarization, isolation, and marginalization, with effective collaborative approaches and tools.

Weave, Thread, a Baltimore-based non-profit founded in 2004 by Sarah and Ryan Hemminger to help young people facing the most significant opportunity and achievement gaps thrive, and the Enoch Pratt Free Library teamed up to create this opportunity to challenge citizens to reflect on both the city's strengths and challenges and through thoughtful interactive storytelling, imagining an outcome that includes more connected and relational communities.
