On a crisp Sunday DC afternoon, you can come out with Mixolo for the Concerts at the National Gallery series for the February 16 Ice 'n' SPICE performance by Eighth Blackbird, a dynamic contemporary chamber ensemble, that's been wowing audiences around the world for nearly two decades. The distinct style of this exciting classical ensemble is unmatched. Don't miss them performing Their program will feature works by Nina Shekhar, composer of Ice 'n' SPICE, Fjjólla Evans, Andy Akiho, Holly Harrison, Jessie Marino, Viet Cuong, Bailey Holland, and Julius Eastman.
This performance begins promptly at 3:30 PM. The audience is admitted on a first-come, first-served basis 30 minutes before the concert begins.
The concerts are free and open to the public. It is not a ticketed event. Mixolo's registration is independent of the organizers and only to coordinate our community experience.
From 2:00 PM, meet your Mixolo seatmates in the Pavillion Cafe:
Plan to meet your Mixolo seatmates at the Pavilion Cafe, pre-performance. starting at 2:00 PM for a meet and greet. The Pavillion care is located in the 6.1-acre block adjacent to the West Building where the concert will be held, and overlooking the beautiful Sculpture Garden. The Pavillion serves light fare (soup, sandwiches, pizza) non-alcoholic beverages and beer and wine. Refreshments are self-pay.
At 3:00 PM, we'll take our seats for the 3:30 PM concert in the West Garden Court in the West Building of the National Gallery of Art.
Post-concert: The garden's fountain, at the center of the garden, serves as an ice rink in winter. If you're feeling adventurous, consider staying after the concert for some fun ice-skating (plan to spend about ($10 for skating and another $5 for rentals).
ABOUT THE VENUE:
The National Gallery of Art, free to the public, houses a world-renowned collection of paintings, sculpture, decorative arts, prints, drawings, and photographs in our nation's capital.
There are six public entryways to the Sculpture Garden: one on Constitution Avenue at 9th Street, three on 7th Street (one directly across from the Gallery's West Building entrance), and two on the National Mall between 7th and 9th Streets NW, and it is accessible to visitors with disabilities.
Mixolo is organizing this outing independently for our members. The NGA-organized event is open to the public - no registration is required by the gallery.
