Opera 101+ with Baltimore Concert Opera
Time & Location
About The Event
With Baltimore Concert Opera's up close and personal "opera-radical" performances, you're destined to discover (or re-discover) the alluring beauty of the human voice as professionally trained and acclaimed opera singers deliver soul-stirring performances of songs from classic opera and music theater.
Whatever your opera exposure or level of composure, join Mixolo and our cast of adventurous solos, with or without a plus-one, and Baltimore Concert Opera (BCO) at their gilded home at the historic Engineer's Club of Mount Vernon, Baltimore, for "Thirsty Thursdays." Any suspicions of pretension are quickly dispelled at this popular performance series featuring several talented artists performing operatic highlights accompanied by a skilled pianist.
Absent the lavishness of a fully staged opera, not to mention the price and the commute to DC or NYC, Baltimore Concert Opera has made opera more accessible and easily "digestible." On this Thirsty Thursday at the Opera, guests may enjoy up to four themed cocktail tastings inspired by the evening's song selections, with cleverly timed breaks in the performances. All four generous tastings are included in the price of admission.
Guests settle in for a relaxed evening in the elegant Grand Ballroom of the Engineers Club in the heart of historic Mount Vernon with the added convenience of subtitles for the curious and the newbies. No judgment. A company founded by opera singers and opera lovers, they strive to provide an experience for opera lovers of all stages.
Typically inserted into the night's program is a song previewing the group's upcoming full-length concert performance. On this Thursday, we'll preview selections from BCO's upcoming full-length concert performance, Stephen Sondheim's Sweeney Todd. This masterpiece "penny dreadful-esque" musical, sometimes depicted as a horror opera, is arguably one of the most innovative and exciting cross-genre productions of its kind.
Whether folks come for the wine, beer, cocktails or live music, everyone has a great time in a beautiful setting. Why not treat yourself to a different kind of swanky night out.
What is included in my ticket price?
Your ticket will admit one to the performance and will include all four cocktail tastings. A cash bar will be open for additional self-pay purchases of beer or wine. We'll gather in a designated area in the Atrium at 7:30 PM to meet and mingle with our fellow solos. The performance begins at 8:00 PM.
