About The Event

Join Mixolo solos for the adaptation of one of greatest stories ever told that never happened as we witness the stage version of George Orwell's’ classic “Animal Farm” at Baltimore Center Stage, Maryland’s official state theater. As always, you don’t need a plus-one. Come solo and enjoy your plus-some theater enthusiasts.

Even if you didn’t read it in high school, most are aware of this allegorical tale of power and oppression written as a political satire, or some say as a bold rebuke, of Russian politics during Joseph Stalin’s rule. In this timeless tale, the animals have overthrown their human masters to establish their own “fair” society where all animals are considered equal, only to encounter some of the same trappings as their perceived oppressors.

Join us “inside the farm” as we glimpse at the dark and often comical archetypes we may recognize in our circles of influence and in any purported civilized society. Meet Old Major, Napoleon, Boxer and Squealer, to name a few, all aptly named by Orwell to clarify his message.

You don’t have to know the book to enjoy the play adaptation by Sir Peter Hall, preeminent director, and playwright. We promise we won’t debate the differences between allegory and metaphor, but we can’t help it if your awareness of how “absolute” power can alter the dynamics of any micro or macro society is heightened.

Make this your happy hour after work on a Thursday. Join us early for a light bite and drink of your choice at 6:00 PM and a quick tour of the beautifully re-imagined and remodeled Baltimore Center Stage space, already a majestic structure and landmark in the historic Mount Vernon neighborhood.

We’ll take in the play together at 7:00PM and an optional “Afterthoughts” discussion on the themes, enlightening and disturbing, with the production’s dramaturg.
