About The Event

Whatever your opera exposure or level of composure, join Mixolo and our cast of adventurous solos, with or without a plus-one, and Baltimore Concert Opera at their gilded home at the historic Engineer's Club of Mount Vernon, Baltimore, for their performance of the award-winning Sondheim classic "Sweeney Todd." Baltimore Concert Opera's first-rate operatic voices will elevate this gripping piece of theater into a stunning musical work that is not to be missed.

Absent the lavishness of a fully staged opera, not to mention the price and the commute to DC - or NYC, - we'll enjoy an energetic concert format of this gripping piece of theater telling the story of the evil, yet misunderstood, Barber of Fleet Street. This masterpiece "penny dreadful-esque" musical, sometimes depicted as a horror opera, is arguably one of the most innovative and exciting cross-genre productions of its kind.

With Baltimore Concert Opera's up close and personal "opera-radical" performances, any suspicions of pretension are quickly dispelled. Ron Lloyd will regale us as the vengeful barber Sweeney Todd (self-proclaimed master of the close shave), a signature role for which Lloyd has garnered critical praise. He is joined by mezzo-soprano and Peabody alumna, Jenni Bank as the crafty co-conspirator, Mrs. Lovett, in the shop’s side business of selling "revenge" pies with dubious fillings. In fact, you can expect a stellar, all-professional cast of accomplished opera singers to bring this dark and witty musical to life.

Guests settle in for a relaxed evening in the elegant Grand Ballroom of the Engineers Club in the heart of historic Mount Vernon with the added convenience of supertitles for the curious and the newbies. No judgment. A company founded by professional opera singers and opera lovers, they strive to provide an experience for opera lovers of all stages.
