Tasting and Pairing with internationally renowned winemaster, Nick Goldschmidt
Time & Location
About The Event
About 14,000KM from New Zealand, Petite Cellars, Howard County’s premier wine, beer and spirits store, is hosting one of the formidable winemakers of the world and a force behind the elevation of New Zealand and American domestic wine, Nick Goldschmidt, Winemaker, Goldschmidt Vineyards, in their ultra-cool tasting room in their store located in Turf Valley Towne Square.
The world-class and highly awarded Goldschmidt Vineyards are not only in New Zealand, Mr. Goldschmidt’s birthplace and home, but in California, Argentina and Chile.
Mr. Goldschmidt will regale us with an informed tasting and pairing of carefully selected wines from his single source California vineyards from Alexander Valley and Napa Valley Oakville appellations and one of his favorite New Zealand wines from his vineyard in beautiful Dry Creek Valley (also home).
Mr. Goldschmidt is a sought-after expert in viticulture and is a leader in 21st century thought on the use of technology and biodynamics with a focus on site-specific winemaking to ensure the “distinct characters, benefits and attributes” derived from the harvests are highlighted in the wines.
Come learn more about the wines you know you like, but may not understand, and hear about Mr. Goldschmidt’s self-described “tortuous” journey that began as a student at Canterbury College in New Zealand to a stint at Australia’s Lincoln University working in organics, plant breeding in the small vineyard where he began to develop his passion for viticulture and responsible winemaking. In addition to his own labels, Mr. Goldschmidt has helped launched an impressive list of labels in California, Argentina, Mexico, Spain and many other premier wine regions of the world. Perhaps you’ve heard of Clos Du Bois, Caliterra, Carneros Creek or Ruffino?
Come out with Mixolo, with or without a plus-one, and taste wines from Mr. Goldschmidt’s prestigious labels, Goldschmidt Vineyard and International Forefathers, paired with artisan cheeses and charcuterie. You’ll learn that winemaking is all in the family with Mr. Goldschmidt’s children now producing award-winning wines of their own, some of which will be included in our tasting.
Update June 4: Proceeds from this event will go to benefit recovery efforts in areas of Ellicott City damaged by the recent flooding.
What’s included in my ticket price?
Several wines will be included in the tasting and paired with artisan cheeses and charcuterie. Wines featured will be Yoeman AV Cabernet, Game Ranch Oakville Cabernet, Hilary Oakville Cabernet, Forefathers Cabernet, Katherine Cabernet, Chelsea Merlot, Singing Tree Chardonnay and Boulder Bank Sauvignon Blanc.
Priceless: Your new knowledge, skills and connections with other wine enthusiasts and the wine-curious.
