Santé: A Taste of Baltimore raises money to help those with kidney disease

Mixolo’s newest not-for-profit host welcomes members, no plus-one required.

The majority of Mixolo members have expressed interest in opportunities to give back to their communities. And they also love food and drink.

Santé, Charm City’s premier culinary and beverage event is here to help. A benefit for the National Kidney Foundation of Maryland and Delaware (NKFMDDE), the gala curates some of Baltimore’s best eats and drinks for an evening that will also raise funds to fight kidney disease.

And we at Mixolo can’t think of a better way to celebrate with our first not-for-profit partner host on our event ticketing platform. The folks at the Kidney Foundation have stepped up to welcome Mixolo guests. Using the new Host platform on the Mixolo app, Santé event organizers have created a welcoming space for Mixolo members, who can show up with confidence that they’ll have a chance to hang out with like-minded folks, no plus-one required.

This year’s event, at the American Visionary Arts Museum (AVAM), expects to see about 300 guests, who will wander amidst chefs and celebrity judges, nibbling on treats and sipping on beverages from local bartenders, breweries and wineries. “Santé is our most delectable event of the year,” says Pattie Dash, executive director of the NKFMDDE. “We are excited about partnering with Mixolo.”

The 9th leading cause of death in the U.S., kidney disease affects one in nine Marylanders. Proceeds from Santé will support immediate patient needs, like medication, food and transport to dialysis, while also funding vital research at Johns Hopkins and the University of Maryland Medical Center.

We are thrilled that the NKFMDDE event planners “get it.” People often see fundraisers as the ultimate “couples” experience, says Dash. “Mixolo gives us the chance to dismantle that perception and welcome unaccompanied guests.”

NKFMDDE with be including Mixolo solos in more of their fun' raising events, from 5K’s runs and walks to rappelling city buildings to cycling on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. They sponsor a summer themed Sante' at the beach.

The expansion of the Mixolo host portal means that event hosts can reach out to potential customers, including their own patrons, who might be opting out of coming to their establishment or event because they feel they need to bring a plus-one.
